Chinese Spend More and
Differently on Weddings BEIJING,
February 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese people are spending more
on their weddings than before and they are spending
differently, according to a recent survey. The survey
found that more than 60 percent of the 414 interviewees
said they could spend as much as 20,000 yuan (about US$2,400)
to 50,000 yuan on wedding expenses.
And
who is expected to foot the bill? Twenty-one percent said
their parents will pay for wedding expenses, The report
is based on a survey conducted by the China Economic
Climate Monitoring Center in Beijing and Wuhan. The money
is primarily spent on purchasing furniture, home
appliances and apartment decorations, the China Daily
reported. A popular trend that is emerging amongst young
couples is the wedding dress photo session. About 19.8
percent of females interviewed said they want to wear a
traditional Western wedding dress during the
commemorative shoot.
On
the other hand, a big wedding meal, traditionally an
important part of the wedding ceremony, is losing
popularity amongst young couples.
Choose
a Wedding Date
For many Chinese
choosing a date for the wedding is a very important thing.
Especially those that are very traditional. There are
many ways this is done. Some do it by matching the birth
dates and times of the bride and groom and choosing the
most auspicious day that is most suitable to the couples'
birth dates. Some refer to the "Tung Shu" (Chinese
almanac). Yet others refer to religious leaders at
temples for advise on the best dates. In general, the
eighth month of the lunar calendar is best and the
seventh month is worst (due to the Hungry Ghost Festival).
Different dialect clans have their different practices
and beliefs. Usually
it is best to check with an elder in the family if you
believe in choosing an auspicious date. Below are some
dates that are deemed "good dates" to have a
wedding by
Chinese traditions according to the lunar calendar.
